As members of UCT Council No. 499, we want to make a difference in and around our city of Baton Rouge.   We follow our International Council's organization with our core interests in aiding people with intellectual disabilities, cancer education and prevention, public safety, youth and drug awareness.   Taking these interests locally, our members have donated their time and energy, and our council has provided resources to such charitable organizations as ARC of Baton Rouge, CASA, DARE, Special Olympics, St. Jude and Children's Miracle Network!

We are always looking for new opportunites to get involved in local efforts!  As our council grows, we want the new ideas which are brought in by our new members!   It is our council's desire to use this new synergy of a growing membership to find new ways to raise funds and  new opportunities to provide our time and resources to truly make that difference here in Baton Rouge!

In our own neighborhood, we provide a monthly Bingo event to our local nursing home  residents.  We have also become a resource for them for special events and holiday activities.

In addition, we have joined up with other councils within our region to volunteer for  "Habitat for Humanity" projects and Special Olympic events in Gulfport, MS.

As of November 2011, we were excited to sponsor a  raffle fundraiser with the LSU Cheerleaders benefitting their assistant coach Chico Garcia who was paralyzed in a boating accident that summer.  You can check out his story and progress on his website, www.cheeringforchico.com.

This year we look forward to additional events with Special Olympics and sponsoring our annual Christmas Party for the Pin Busters bowling league.

On March 12, 2011, sixteen volunteers (members and families) spent the day assisting in the Louisiana Special Olympics State Indoor Games held at LSU's Carl Maddox Field House.  In addition to giving a hand to a worthy cause, we had fun as well!    So there WILL be more volunteering opportunities like this coming up in the near future!  Stay informed!  Stay connected!  Follow us on Facebook under "UCT Baton Rouge Council #499" for future updates, information and dates...
